Mister Atompunk Presents:

STATION COMMAND II

Hold the station until relief arrives.

You are the executive officer. Or rather, you were. Until twenty minutes ago. The Station Commander was killed in the first assault.

The distress signal went out before that; fleet command acknowledged it and issued an ETA.

You inherited both.

THE RING TURNS, AND TURNING COSTS

The station is a wheel. Its rotation is its gravity. Spin it faster and the crew live at higher G, the hull takes structural load, and the thrusters drain your reserve as the square of the rate.

Rotation is also how you point. Six pods ride the outer ring, each covering sixty degrees of arc, and you cannot cover everything at once.

EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED, AND EVERY CONNECTION CAN BE CUT

Eighteen ring sections and truss spokes hold the station together. Sever the right two and a pod is still intact, and completely useless. Cut off from the bus with no power and no way for the repair crew to reach it.

The shield converts damage rather than preventing it, and the conversion is paid for out of the same reserve your thrusters and lasers draw from. When it runs dry the field collapses and the rim starts taking what the shield was eating.

Four more pods sit on the inner ring: power, shield, helm, and a mortar that lobs its shells over the rim rather than through it.

Lose the helm and the station tumbles, and how badly depends entirely on what you were doing when it happened.

SEVENTY-TWO SOULS

Every section has a crew, and every crew has a chief who reports it. They gain rating by serving a working pod.

Marines come from the same roster. A boarding party is five people. Take a crippled hull and it becomes yours. Captured ships hold station outside your ring and fight for you.
